On May 8th, 2022, some families of the missing renamed a roundabout that housed a dead tree as the "Roundabout of the Missing", a memorial space in downtown Mexico City.
On May 15, 2022, fences were put up by the government to protect the roundabout from further interventions. Ever since, the metallic surfaces of the fences have become a slowly-changing monument to the missing and to our solid home: violence.
A thousand absent eyes stared at me.
I turned my gaze to my burning home and realized that the same fire that had turned my bones into ashes, had also kept me warm during the night.
Inside me, I felt the fire subside: the sky cried, pouring while the night grew warm. While water flowed across my face, I realized that that pile of ash was where I belonged.
I once again heard my name being silently called. I now knew that I could never forget.
And I felt so happy...
